BBC NEWS | Scotland | Edinburgh and East | Crane tears roof off packed bus

On BBC Ceefax one page reported a bus had driven in to a crane, and another page said the crane had driven in to the bus.
As for who’s fault it was I suppose we’ll have to wait. To get that size of lorry round the corner it must have had to swing pritty wide anyway.
Slateford Road (Near Tynecastle Stadium) has just started to be resurfaced. Work started on the 5th and is due to last 6 weeks. I’m not sure the length is to be resurfaced, but 6 weeks seems to be an aufy long time. Also seems to be a load of navvies standing arround doing not much
Road works on Ardmillan Terrace were supposed to last 6 weeks - they eventually took near to 12. They started off doing “full depth replacement” - basically taking out the road down to the soil and replacing it. It took them near 6 weeks just to do the lower third of the street. After that it appears they gave up doing the full depth replacement and just resurfaced the top layer.
All sounds fine until Scottish Gas decide to dig up the junction of Shandon Place and Slateford Road. Absolute Gridlock.
Utility companies are supposed to get permission from the Council before digging up the roads. So why did the council not change the diversion route?
Update - Both sets of Roadworks are in the weekly Clarence Road Work Report - so the council knew well in advance that the diversion route for the Slateford Road closure would head towards major roadworks.
