Paypal - Not always instant payment…

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I had always assumed Paypal offered imediate payment. Every time I have paid something via Paypal it has been instant. Well it would appear I was wrong.

Paypal offer something called echeques - rather than them taking the money out of your paypal account or charging your credit card, they take the money out of your bank acount via a Direct Debit arrangement. Sound good if your sending money, but not if your receiving it.

If your receiving payment Paypal say the moneys on it’s way, but it can take up to 9 days to clear and hit your account. Paypal say you shouldn’t ship untill you receive final confirmation from them.

If I’d wanted to wait nearly 2 weeks for payment I could just accept cheques or postal orders!

Ebay - update

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Well so far I’ve sold 4 items on ebay - 2 sets of Technic Lego axles and 2 sets of Technic pins.

Sadly 3 other sets of pins and one set of axles failed to sell even after relisting them. Total ebay fees were arround £5.

Was it worth it? It was a learning experience. I’ll maybee try selling the bulk packs of Technic Axles again but I’ll leave it at that.

I’ve sold my first item on eBay

Monday, March 5th, 2007

After years of building Lego Technic models I took the decision to get rid of the thousands of bits. I looked up some of the websites I had used to buy parts from in the past and decided to set up my own shop on Bricklink. Bricklink only charge 3% comission on stuff that actually sells which is the big advantage. Each part is sold individually, so I’ve had to catalogue the thousands of parts ready for sale. Current count is 17,000 bits.

As an alternative I also investigated eBay. Problem with ebay is the fairly large comission. I worked out on an £8 sale the commission could be nearly £2. I decided to try out ebay and listed my first item as a buy it now. Well after 5 days it sold today

The process was smooth and ebay makes it easy for you. There’s plenty of opertunities to refine your listing as you go along.

So much so I’ve listed my second item -
